Snakes

Snakes are cold-blooded (ectothermic) carnivores Los Angeles bird control forming the Serpentes sub-order of reptiles with their extended legless bodies. They can be found on most continents and oceans of the world with over 2,900 species recorded.

Appearance:
The snake is a reptilian creature carrying Los Angeles bird control similar facial features to the lizard with an elongated frame and no legs, it body is covered in scales. The snake can be distinguished from the legless lizards by its missing external ears and by Los Angeles bird control having no noticeable eyelids.

Biology:
Snakes come in many sizes ranging from the smallest Leptotyphlops Carlae (Barbados Threadsnake) at 3.9in or approximately 10cm, to the largest recorded in the sub-species Python Reticulatus, (Asiatic Reticulated Python) at 22.8ft or approximately 6.95m.

Their skeletal structure has evolved dramatically Los Angeles rodent extermination from that of its lizard ancestors, by narrowing and stretching out its thoracic (chest) region, and the loss of its front and back legs, though some of the more primitive Henophidia suborder keeps the remnants Los Angeles rodent extermination of a pelvic bone and their vestigial legs. Most skeletal snake structures are composes solely of a skull, hyoid, ribs and a vertebral column (200 to 400 vertebrae). The skull being composed mainly of loosely attached bones Los Angeles rodent extermination which allow for it to stretch and manipulate the jaw when consuming prey wider than its body’s width. The lower jaw bone is actually two parts joined together by an elastic ligament. These separate mandibles also allow for better prey and threat Los Angeles rodent extermination detection when the snake’s head is on the ground, due to the subterranean vibrations giving a better idea of the direction the prey or threat travel.

Majority of the snake’s skeletal structure is the stretched out thorax region having the highest quantity of vertebrae in the body and each of these thoracic vertebrae have two ribs. The lower (lumbar) and pelvic region only hold about a fifth of the vertebrae.

The organs of a snake have been stretched. With dual organs, such as lungs and kidneys, one organ rests higher up than the other (most snakes only have one lung that works and some only have one lung). Another interesting note about the organs is that due to the lack of a diaphragm the heart can move around freely.

The Snake has several perceptual senses which it uses to hunt and detect threats and prey. Some snake’s eyes can merely tell light from dark while Los Angeles bat removal others are able to see movement and have normal vision. The snake’s sense of smell comes from its forked-tongue and vomeronasal organ. The tongue collects chemicals on each side of the forking which it then brings inside Los Angeles bat removal its mouth to the vomeronasal organ. This not only tells the snake what it is smelling but also helps to give it the direction of the smell. This sense of smell also functions in and under water.

All snakes have sensitive underbellies which can Los Angeles rat control detect vibrations, warning the snake of movements around them. Some snakes have the ability to detect infrared allowing them to spot all warm-blooded creatures when vision might be impaired and see spots where they can warm their bodies.

Snakes have smooth dry scales which are not individual scales Los Angeles rat control like some reptiles but rather the external section of the epidermis. This is why during ecdysis (molting) all the scales peel off together as a turned-out sleeve. The underside scales are designed for gripping surfaces, while Los Angeles rat control the top (body) scales have many textures and can be spiny or smooth. The eyes are also covered by a translucent scale which functions as the eyelids. During ecdysis the snake removes the old scale layer, including the translucent Los Angeles rat control eyelids, that may have been damaged or parasite ridden this happens more frequently in growing snakes.

The reproduction of snakes is internal this is achieved by a forked hemipenes of the male which hooks, bends or clings into the female’s cloaca. The snake lays an egg which is usually abandoned, with only a few Los Angeles raccoon removal species constructing nests or caring for their eggs.

Not many snakes are venomous, relying rather on constriction or eating prey alive. Those that are venomous vary in venoms ranging from neurotoxins (affects the nerves and brain), bungarotoxins (similar to neurotoxins which cause blindness), cytotoxins (toxins that attack cells), hemotoxins (toxins that damage the blood or blood clotting) and many other toxins. Some of these snake venoms are lethal to humans.

Behavior and Diet:
Due to snakes being ectothermic they Los Angeles snake removal are mostly dormant in the winter seasons of colder regions (brumating – awake but inactive). They are strictly carnivorous in diet, eating mainly small mammals, birds, eggs, fish, and mollusks. Regardless of the fact that they are legless Los Angeles snake removal snakes are both quick and agile making them an efficient and hard to detect predator. Their main type of locomotion is known as lateral undulation (moving the body from side to side).

Habitat:
Snakes can be found on every continent of the world, excluding Antarctica and some islands (Ireland; New Zealand; Greenland), and can also be found in the Pacific and Indian Ocean. This Los Angeles raccoon removal means that they are both terrestrial and aquatic, and have been found at heights of 16,000ft (approximately 4,900m) above sea level in the Himalayas.

Snakes come in many sizes and colors around the planet. Some are lethal to humans while most are not. Regardless of this most people still harbor snakes in their deepest fears.
